Manik Sarkar's image is as a very honest politician.

Guwahati:

Manik Sarkar, who is considered a big face for the Left parties in Tripura and has been the Chief Minister for four times, will not contest the assembly elections to be held next month.

Sources said that the CPI (M) has not given ticket to the 74-year-old government.

However, it has been announced by the party that Manik Sarkar will lead the campaign of the Left parties in the state.

Let me tell you, CPI (M) has ruled Tripura from 1978 to 2018, during which there was a break of five years in between.

During his tenure, Sarkar managed to maintain peace even in this small state bordering Bangladesh which was once the center of militancy and Bengali-tribal conflict.

During the tenure of the government, known for clean governance, there was an increase in literacy and a decrease in poverty and malnutrition, and women empowerment was encouraged.

Manik Sarkar, a Khanty Communist and a member of the party's Politburo, had an image of an honest politician.

Sarkar, once known as the country's poorest chief minister, is the most credible face of the state party.

It is hoped that the government that led the state government from 1998 to 2018 will again be able to woo the Left's largest vote bank, tribals and Dalits, who will shift to the BJP-IPFT (Indigenous Progressive Front of Tripura) happened.

CPI(M) sources said that the government needs to campaign across the state.

He should not confine himself only to his traditional constituency Dhanpur.

In the year 2018 elections, BJP created history by coming to power by winning 36 out of 60 seats in the state.

IPFT got 8 seats while CPM could get only 16 seats.

After the humiliating defeat in the last election, the CPI(M) has entered into a seat-sharing agreement with the Congress, under which the Left Front will field candidates on 47 out of 60 seats in the state.

Congress candidates will contest the remaining 13 seats.
