Two people were killed and five injured in a knife attack on a train in Germany today, DPA reported, citing the interior minister of the country's northernmost state, Schleswig-Holstein, Sabine Zutterlin-Waack.

The train set traveled from Kiel to Hamburg.

A man attacked other passengers shortly before the train arrived at Brokstet station, police said earlier.

Soon after, he was detained in the city itself.

The assailant appears to be between 20 and 30 years old.

The motive for the crime is still unclear.

Brokstet is a small town in the province of Schleswig-Holstein, about 60 kilometers north of Hamburg, BTA noted.
