On the evening of Wednesday, January 25, an unknown assailant killed one person and injured four others in at least two churches in southern Spain.

The man the police arrested used a machete.

As El País reports, one priest was killed and another was wounded at the hands of the attacker.

The attack on two churches in the city of Algeciras in the southern province of Andalusia was confirmed by the police.

According to one of the local priests, an unknown man came to the church and started tearing things from the altar.

When the local priest tried to stop him, he attacked him with a machete.

The churchman tried to escape, but the attacker caught up with him outside.

Another attack happened during a service in a church nearby.

According to the Spanish media, the attacker was of Moroccan origin, although when he was detained, no documents were found with him.

The prosecutor's office is investigating the attack as a terrorist attack.

It will be recalled that on the same day in the north of Spain, the police arrested a 74-year-old man suspected of having sent several letters with light explosives to the government office, the Ministry of Defense and the Ukrainian and US embassies in Madrid last November.
