The Supreme Court has currently postponed the matter for four weeks

New Delhi :

The Supreme Court has orally commented on the anticipatory bail granted to Teesta Sheetalvad and her husband Javed Anand in the case of misuse of NGO funds.

The apex court asked the CBI and the Gujarat government, "Do you want to send Teesta Setalvad and her husband Javed Anand back to custody? They are both out on bail for more than seven years. Why is the anticipatory bail case pending for seven years?" The question is how long can you detain someone?"

The Supreme Court has currently postponed the matter for four weeks.

Kapil Sibal, appearing for Teesta Setalvad, said that we have made a list of all the pending cases and what is the position so that it can be clear. These are the cases which are pending for eight-eight years.

Anticipatory bail cases are pending for eight years.

The High Court has given anticipatory bail.

Regular bail has also been granted in many cases.

At the same time, time was sought from the government for additional material.

On this, the Supreme Court said that it will hear after four weeks.

In fact, in the case of misuse of NGO's funds, the Supreme Court was hearing about the anticipatory bail granted to Teesta Sheetalvad and her husband Javed Anand.

On 11 May 2019, the relief he got from the Bombay High Court was upheld.

The Supreme Court refused to stay the High Court's decision to grant anticipatory bail to both.

However, the Supreme Court issued a notice on the petition of the Gujarat government and the couple and sought answers.

Significantly, in February 2019 itself, the Bombay High Court granted conditional anticipatory bail to both of them in the case of embezzlement of funds worth Rs 1.4 crore.

The High Court had said that both will cooperate in the investigation in this matter.

Apart from the Gujarat government, Teesta has also filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding this.

The Supreme Court had tagged the case with the old CBI case.
