The government of Azerbaijan submitted the main claim document to the International Court of Justice.

APA was informed about this by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"This is an important development in the international legal proceedings brought by our country against Armenia in accordance with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

The main allegation filed in court is based on thousands of pages of evidence documenting thirty years of injustice.

The document contains detailed information about Azerbaijanis who were killed, displaced and suffered as a result of ethnic and national cleansing, one of the most terrible acts by Armenia.

The usurpation of Armenia and the illegal occupation of the internationally recognized territories of Azerbaijan were accompanied by a deliberate and purposeful policy of ethnic cleansing.

The purpose of this activity, which will continue until 2020, is to create an Armenian settlement in the territory of our country through the destruction, looting and exploitation of the regions of Azerbaijan.

After liberating its lands in 2020, Azerbaijan carried out a large-scale collection of evidence in the mentioned areas.

The scale of Armenia's destruction of hundreds of thousands of lives, countless families and communities, irreplaceable cultural heritage and the environment is truly appalling.

Armenia's ethnic discrimination policy and actions, including the illegal occupation of our territories for nearly thirty years, prevented our compatriots from returning to their homes in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

To date, hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijani IDPs still cannot return to their former homes.

Cities such as Fuzuli, Aghdam, Jabrayil, Gubadli, Zangilan and Kalbajar were completely destroyed by Armenia during the occupation period and during the retreat from the territories after the war in 2020 as part of the "scorched earth" policy.

After the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia in 1991, 95 percent of the buildings located in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan were razed to the ground.

This discriminatory policy also includes Armenia's targeting of civilian homes and settlements with explosive devices and landmines.

After the end of the 44-day Patriotic War, 282 Azerbaijanis were killed or seriously injured in mine explosions.

Landmines are an important element and heavy legacy of Armenia's campaign to prevent the return of Azerbaijani IDPs.

Based on the detailed evidence presented, the Azerbaijani side requested the court to grant the petition that Armenia is responsible for the widespread violation of the rights of Azerbaijanis.

In particular, an appeal is addressed to declare the Armenian government responsible for ethnic cleansing, including intentional deprivation of life and property rights, torture, destruction of cultural heritage, promotion of hatred against Azerbaijanis among the Armenian population, and state aid to armed groups created on the basis of hatred in Armenia. the information says.

In the appeal of the Azerbaijani side, it was also emphasized that it is important for Armenia to fulfill its obligations related to disclosing all information about missing Azerbaijanis, to return all illegally seized property and land to Azerbaijanis, to stop propaganda based on hate, and to be held accountable for the violation of human rights for thirty years.

It was emphasized that the Azerbaijani side will continue all necessary measures to bring the perpetrators of the mentioned crimes to international legal responsibility.
