The criminal activity of the group behind the cross-border VAT fraud scheme resulted in an estimated €32 million in damages, the release said.

The investigation also covered Austria, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Slovenia.

The investigation began in 2021 with the aim of gathering evidence and more information about the organized crime group.

The suspects are said to have been trafficking small electronic devices from Germany and selling them through so-called "missing dealers" across Europe.
