Deputies adopted in the second reading changes to the Law on the Bulgarian Sign Language related to the payment of interpreters.

Until now, the maximum amount of funds for payment of one hour of free translation service in Bulgarian sign language was determined by a decision of the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of Labor and Social Policy.

The MPs have now recorded that the rate of payment for one hour of translation service is 5 percent of the minimum wage established for the country for the relevant year.

The proposal for a change in the translators' pay is by Iskren Arabadjiev from "We continue the change".

At the department committee meeting, he told BTA that the current rate is BGN 10 per hour, and with the voted change, in line with the current minimum wage, the rate will rise to BGN 39.

Deputies are meeting tomorrow in an extraordinary session

With the changes, sign language interpreters are given the opportunity to be and have completed a bachelor's degree majoring in "Bulgarian Sign Language" with a Philology profile.
