Train services at Gare du Nord in Paris, the busiest long-distance station in the French capital, were disrupted throughout the day due to two fires at midnight in the signaling system cables, DPA reported, citing a statement from a spokesman for the state-owned rail operator. SNCF (SNCF).

Several of the trains arriving or departing from the station have been cancelled, the East Station online timetable shows.

According to the French rail operator, the cause was two fires in a communication system not far from Paris, which were allegedly caused deliberately.

French Transport Minister Clément Bon called the fires, which appear to be acts of vandalism, a "scandalous act," the Associated Press reported.

Some trains had to shorten their routes or be diverted to the nearby Paris Nord station.

The SNSF railway company cannot provide accurate data for the time being.

New protests are planned for today in France against the pension reform

Paris Gare du Nord is the main connection point between Paris and eastern France.

It is also an international station for travel to Germany and Switzerland, with several international long-distance trains departing or arriving daily.

Parisienne newspaper reported, citing the French state-owned utility SNCF, that about 50 cables had burned.

The repair, according to SNN SEF, will be complex, added DPA, quoted by BTA.
