A Volvo heavy-duty truck with a trailer attached was forcibly stopped on the road from Sofia to Montana through the old mountain pass Petrohan, through which the passage of cars weighing more than 12 tons is prohibited.

During a drug test, it was found that the driver was driving under the influence of amphetamines, reported the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Montana.

When a signal was given with a stop baton by a patrol of RU-Berkovitsa at kilometer 55 in the pass, the driver did not stop, but accelerated the traffic and had to be forcibly stopped by the police.

It was established that the TIR had a Turkish registration, and behind the wheel was a 33-year-old Turkish citizen who was detained for 24 hours in the RU detention center in Berkovitsa.

The offender was charged with three acts – for failure to comply with a police order, for driving after the use of drugs and for crossing a road prohibited for heavy goods vehicles.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated against him under Article 343 of the Criminal Code.

A driver sitting behind the wheel after using drugs was also arrested in Montana.

During a routine check in the city center, it was found that a 25-year-old man from Belogradchik was driving a car under the influence of amphetamines.

The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Montana specifies that since the beginning of this year, 10 drivers who drove after using drugs and one driver who was transporting drugs were found in the region.

In 2022, the arrested drugged drivers in Montansko are 72, and in 2021 – 45. The increase in the number of offenders last year and at the beginning of this year is due to several factors, the main one being the increased checks of the traffic police for the use of drugs and of the many actions of the police, held in order to control the traffic on the roads, said the BTA from the police directorate in Montana.
