The European Commission condemned today the burning of the Koran in front of the Turkish embassy in Sweden.

A spokesman for the commission expressed the expectation that the Swedish authorities would take the necessary measures in this case.

Such actions are incompatible with the values ​​on which the EU was founded, the spokesperson pointed out at a press conference in response to a question.

We have stated earlier that racism, xenophobia, hatred based on faith, race and skin color have no place in the EU, he added. 

Swedish authorities should take appropriate action related to this incident, the spokesman added.

Turkey has announced its intention to file claims in international courts over the Koran burning case in Stockholm on Saturday.

Ankara specified that the scheduled visit of the Swedish Minister of Defense to Turkey has been cancelled.
