SVR did not provide evidence to support its claims, the agency notes, and makes the caveat that it cannot verify their credibility.

The statement said that US-supplied Hymars missiles, air defense systems and artillery munitions were deployed at the Rivne nuclear power plant in northwestern Ukraine.

According to SVR, this happened in the last week of December.

Ukrainian nuclear power plants have been in the center of attention since the beginning of the conflict, Reuters notes.

The Russian armed forces took over the defunct Chernobyl nuclear power plant less than 48 hours after invading the neighboring country, and a little later - Europe's largest nuclear power plant, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
