A big accident has happened in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu.

Four people died when a part of the crane fell off.

When this incident happened, a ceremony was going on in the temple and a large number of people were present there.

Eyewitnesses say that the crane carrying the idols of deities suddenly crashed at around 8.15 pm.

The procession was part of the Draupadi Amman festival, which is held after Pongal.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, in which the crane can be seen falling to the ground with people hanging from it.

Due to the accident of the crane, the devotees in the temple started running here and there in panic.

Police said that a case has been registered and investigation is on.

Ranipet Superintendent of Police Deepa Sathyan said, "A part of the crane was on higher ground. It seems that due to imbalance of soil, the crane fell. Investigation is underway."

The police have also taken the crane drivers into custody. 

It is being told that the injured were taken to the government hospital for treatment.

One of them died on Monday morning." S. Bhoopalan (40), B. Jothibabu (17), K. Muthukumar (39) and Chinnasamy (60) died in the accident, he said.

Ranipet Collector Bhaskar Pandian said that the crane operator has been taken into custody.

He said, "There was no permission or notice to use the crane in the temple festival. It is a private temple."
