A 40-year-old woman hit a cyclist with her car, who later died in the Shumen hospital, the press center of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
A traffic accident report was received on January 21, shortly before 6 p.m., on the road from Shumen's "Divdyadovo" district to the village of Marash.
Police and emergency teams have been sent to the scene of the accident.
It was clarified that the driver of an "Audi A4" car with Shumen registration caught up with a cyclist moving in the direction of "Divdyadovo" district and was hit by the car.
The injured 79-year-old man was taken in a serious condition to the Shumen hospital, where he was diagnosed with a head injury and rib fractures.
A little later, the man died.
The driver of the car, a 40-year-old woman, has legal capacity.
She was tested for alcohol, her sample was negative.
A pre-trial proceeding has been initiated.

The Court of Appeal in Varna confirmed the decision of the District Court in Shumen, which placed the 18-year-old driver Zhechko Kyurkchiev under house arrest, who caused the accident that led to the death of the 22-year-old girl and the bodily injury of another woman.
By decree of a prosecutor from the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, Kyurkchiev's non-refoulement measure from "house arrest" was changed to a "cash guarantee" in the amount of BGN 25,000.
