In November last year, Bhagat Singh Koshyari described the Maratha emperor Shivaji as "an icon of the bygone days".

He had said, "Earlier when you were asked who is your ideal, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose and Mahatma Gandhi used to be the answers."

You need not look any further in Maharashtra, as there are icons aplenty.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj belongs to the old days.

Now BR Ambedkar and Nitin Gadkari are also role models among the people.

After this, there was a lot of opposition in Maharashtra. 

In July 2022, Koshyari courted controversy by saying that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis were thrown out of Maharashtra, the state would have no money left.

He had said, "If Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed from Maharashtra, especially Mumbai and Thane, there will be no money left here."

The people of Maharashtra considered it as an insult and they were fiercely opposed. 

In March 2022, Koshyari mocked 19th-century social reformers Savitribai and Jyotirao Phule for "marrying young".

He said, "Savitribai was married at the age of 10 and her husband was 13 at that time. Now just imagine what girls and boys must be thinking after marriage."

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray accused the governor of being hyperactive, while at times he does not budge at all.

He told that Koshyari has not filled the 12 vacant seats of the State Legislative Council from his quota.

In November 2019, at an early morning swearing-in ceremony, Koshyari administered the oath of office to Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar as chief minister and deputy chief minister, respectively, amid the BJP-Shiv Sena feud.

After this he was fiercely opposed.

However, this government could not last long.
