January 22 is

the Day of the National Assembly of Ukraine

.

This is an official national holiday, which is celebrated in honor of the Act of unification (unification) of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic in 1919.

Also, a year before that (1918), the independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic was proclaimed.

This holiday is of great importance for every citizen of Ukraine.

It was on January 22, 1918 in Kyiv during the meeting of the Small Council that the IV Universal was signed, which proclaimed the independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic.

On this day, any ideas about the creation of autonomy were abandoned and ties with imperial Russia were severed.

But the newly formed state was attacked by the Bolsheviks, so its sovereignty, unfortunately, was short-lived.

IV Universal proclaimed the full sovereignty of the Ukrainian People's Republic, as well as the desire of the young state to have peaceful relations with neighboring countries.

The document also stated that neighboring countries have no right to interfere in the internal affairs of the Ukrainian People's Republic.

Peasants got ownership of the land, natural resources came under national control.

An army was created, banks were subordinated to the central government, and a Constituent Assembly was convened to create a Constitution.

A year later, on January 22, 1919, the UNR and the ZUNR united into one country.

Thus, a sovereign united Ukrainian State was formed.

The event was of a solemn nature and took place on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in the city of Kyiv.

The Day of the National Assembly of Ukraine was introduced as a holiday by a presidential decree in 1999.

This event has great historical and cultural significance.

The Act of Zluka shows that Ukrainians have always wanted to reunite to build an independent state.

Although this desire was able to become a reality only in 1991.
