Due to snowfall in the higher reaches of Kashmir, the minimum temperature has increased in the entire valley except Pahalgam, although the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy snowfall and rain for the next three days from Monday.

Officials gave this information on Sunday.

According to officials, light to moderate snowfall was recorded in some higher reaches of Kashmir including the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg.

Apart from this, it rained in the night in many other areas.

According to officials, due to cloudy sky, the minimum temperature in the valley has increased.

At the same time, the night temperature in Srinagar and Qazigund remained above the freezing point.

According to the Meteorological Department, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of one degree Celsius, which is 0.2 degree Celsius more than the previous night.

Qazigund, the gateway to the valley, recorded a minimum temperature of 0.2 degree Celsius.

At the same time, the minimum temperature in Kokernag in South Kashmir was recorded 2 degrees higher than the previous night and minus 1.9 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, which was higher than the previous night's.

Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.8 degrees Celsius, making the famous ski-resort the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pahalgam in Anantnag district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius.

Pahalgam also serves as the base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra.

The Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of light rain or snowfall in some places of the union territory on Sunday.

According to this, there is a possibility of heavy rain and snowfall in the plains of Kashmir from Monday to Wednesday.

There is a possibility of light rain and snowfall at some places on Thursday and Friday.

Kashmir is currently in the grip of 'Chillai Kalan'.

Snowfall is more likely during this harshest weather period of 40 days.

Chillai Kalan begins on 21st December and ends on 30th January.

Even after this, the cold wave continues and 'Chillai Khurd' lasts for 20 days and 'Chillai Bachha' lasts for 10 days.
