Kiren Rijiju has described the comments made by a former judge as "sensible".

The tussle between the government and the judiciary over the appointment of judges

took an acrimonious turn on Sunday.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, citing comments made by a former judge, underlined his view and called it "sensible".

"The Supreme Court hijacked the Constitution for the first time"

In an interview with LawStreet India YouTube channel, RS Sodhi, who has given

many important judgments of the country

and retired judge of Delhi High Court, said, "Supreme Court has hijacked the Constitution for the first time. The Supreme Court has said that we ourselves are judges. Will appoint. Government will not have any role in this. According to the constitution, High Courts are not subordinate to the Supreme Court. Both are independent, but the High Court judges start seeing and become subordinate to the Supreme Court. This is because That the collegium of judges of the Supreme Court appoints the judges of the High Court and it also does their transfer-posting. Due to this, the judges of the High Court keep looking towards the Supreme Court. According to the constitution, the Supreme Court is supreme in its scope and the High Court Court within its purview."

Noble voice of a judge: The real beauty of Indian democracy is its success.

The people rule themselves through their representatives.

Elected representatives represent the interests of the people and make laws.

Our judiciary is independent but our constitution is supreme.

It is only those people who disregard the provisions of the Constitution and the mandate of the people and think that they are above the Constitution of India."

long standing disagreement

The statement is the latest in a long-standing disagreement between the judiciary and the government, which has intensified in recent months.
