Although there was no shooting at the festival itself, the second day of Chinese New Year celebrations was canceled due to security concerns.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said yesterday's shooting was a "horrific act of gun violence."

"Monterey Park was supposed to host a night of joyous celebration of the Lunar New Year.

Instead, they became victims of a horrific and callous act of gun violence," he wrote on Twitter.

Instead, they were the victims of a horrific and heartless act of gun violence.

Our hearts mourn as we learn more about the devastating acts of last night.

We are monitoring the situation closely.
