The administration of US President Joe Biden believes that European partners should meet Ukraine's defense needs as soon as possible due to the nature of the hostilities in Donbas, which continue in the winter and will probably drag on until the spring.

This was said by John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications of the US National Security Council, in an interview with "Voice of America".

According to him, one of the critical needs of the Armed Forces will be armored vehicles.

In this regard, Kirby noted that the US welcomes Great Britain's decision to send Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine.

"We know that Germany is developing its own initiative regarding Leopard 2 tanks. These are excellent tanks, powerful, which do not require long-term training of the Ukrainians. But this decision must be made by Germany. We will not twist our hands, push and persuade," the White House official emphasized .

Kirby emphasized that the US position is that European allies give what they can, when they can and in the amount that suits them.

He also denied the existence of any "confrontation" in NATO over military support for Ukraine, noting that the US has regular discussions with all allies about what they can provide and on what scale.

"These are sovereign countries, they will decide for themselves, because they have their own needs in the field of national security, which they must take into account, just like us.

But in general, we can say that the Alliance firmly supports Ukraine, and we do not see this support falling apart," Kirby said.

It will be recalled that a high-ranking US official advises Ukraine to postpone the start of a major offensive against Russian troops until the Armed Forces receive American weapons, which are included in the latest package of military aid, and training is conducted.
