The Metropolitan Opera in New York will mark the first anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army with an extraordinary concert on February 24.

This was announced on the Met-Opera's official website.

Mozart's "Requiem" will be played in memory of the innocent war victims, and Beethoven's 5th symphony will be played in anticipation of the upcoming victory.

The general manager of the famous New York institution, Peter Gelb, said that the national anthem of Ukraine and "Prayer for Ukraine" by Valentin Sylvestrov will also be heard from the stage.

Classical works will be performed by the orchestra under the leadership of the Canadian conductor Yannick Neze-Seguin.

Ukrainian artists - tenor Dmytro Popov and baritone Vladyslav Buyalskyi - will take part in the concert.

Last year, the Manhattan Opera House held a concert to raise funds for victims of the war in Ukraine and announced that it was temporarily suspending collaboration with artists or institutions that support President Vladimir Putin in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

We will remind you that at the end of last year Kharkiv was renamed the Academic Russian Drama Theater named after Alexander Pushkin.
