The 33rd anniversary of the January 20 tragedy was celebrated at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Great Britain.

APA's British office reports that at the event organized by "University College London" student Mirkazim Seyidzadeh and "Kings College" student Mehin Babayeva, Azerbaijan's ambassador to Britain Elin Suleymanov, head of the Azerbaijan House operating in London Ali Tekin Atalar, British journalist Neil Watson, members of the Azerbaijani and Turkish diaspora, Azerbaijani students participated.

At the commemoration ceremony, the memory of the martyrs of January 20 was commemorated with a minute of silence, and a video dedicated to those events was shown.

Later, Ambassador Elin Suleymanov spoke about the history of the January 20 tragedy and said that it is a glorious page of our history.

He noted that this tragedy committed 33 years ago is engraved in the memory of the Azerbaijani people as an example of heroism.

The ambassador said that similar events took place in many Soviet republics at that time, but the bloodiest of them took place in Baku.

He noted that despite all these crimes and violence, the people of Azerbaijan restored their state independence at the cost of their lives and blood without losing their determination.

Speaking about the youth of Azerbaijan, the ambassador added that he is proud of them and thanks to the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, these young people have returned our lands.

Journalist Neil Watson also shared his memories and said that he first heard about the night of January 20, 1990 on "BBC".

He shared with the event participants what he knew about the massacre committed by the direct orders of Mikhail Gorbachev.

The journalist noted that during his visits to Azerbaijan, he visited the Alley of Martyrs and participated in the commemoration ceremonies of Black January.

Neil Watson said that he once again remembered the victims of January 20 with respect.

At the event, Ali Tekin Atalar, head of the Azerbaijan House, shared his memories and thoughts about the January 20 tragedy.
