The judge of the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, ruled this Friday

to maintain preventive detention for 942 people who participated in the Bolsonaro takeover

of the headquarters of Congress, the Planalto Palace and STF on January 8, located in the capital.

The decision was made after completing the analysis of the situation of 1,406 individuals imprisoned after the excesses.

As a result, the head of the Supreme Court ordered the release of 464 people.

A series of precautionary measures were imposed on these individuals, among them, their passports were canceled and their firearms documentation was suspended, while they must wear an electronic anklet.

In addition, they are prohibited from leaving the country, using social networks or contacting others involved in the violent events, the institution detailed in a statement.

The magistrate affirmed that

the validity of preventive detention for the 942 arrested is a necessary measure to guarantee public order and ensure the effectiveness of the investigations

.

In this sense, it is pointed out that supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro

had the intention of coercing and preventing the exercise of constitutional powers.

Those arrested face charges for

preparatory acts of terrorism

, criminal association, violent abolition of the democratic rule of law,

coup d'état

, threat and incitement to crime.

According to data from the Secretary of State for Penitentiary Administration (Seape),

only 6%

of those who broke into government headquarters came from

the Federal District

.

Meanwhile, the largest number of participating Bolsonaristas came from the state of Sao Paulo (271), followed by Minais Gerais (200), Paraná (131) and Mato Grosso (103), collects Metropolis.

After the victory of the current president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the second round of the presidential elections by a narrow margin, Bolsonaro's supporters protested against the results of the second round, denouncing fraud.
