"Bulgartransgaz" signed a contract for the expansion of our gas storage facility in Chiren.

Thus, in practice, its capacity will be doubled to 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

In addition to the expansion of the capacity, the possibilities for extraction will be increased to 10 million cubic meters of gas.

The upgrade will allow the storage facility to switch even more quickly from gas-fill mode to head-pumping to respond to the need to bring in cheaper feedstock relative to market prices.

In the first stage of the expansion, a new compressor station will be built and commissioned.

The head of "Bulgartransgaz": We are ready to ensure gas supplies for years to come"With the expansion of the storage facility, we achieve several technical parameters - firstly, an increase in the gas that can be stored in the reservoir, and secondly - the extraction and injection capacity, which from 4 it will rise to 8 and even 10 million cubic meters per day", said the director of "Bulgartransgaz" Vladimir Malinov.

More gas measuring stations and 13 underground boreholes will be built, which will de facto expand the storage capacity.

The total value of the three projects is BGN 600 million, and consortia around "Glavbolgarstroy" and "Atomenergoremont" share the expansion of the gas storage facility.

"Bulgartransgaz" also commissioned the construction of a gas pipeline from Chiren to the village of Butan, where it is connected to the Bulgarian gas transmission system.

According to the former EU enlargement commissioner and current chairman of the International Advisory Board of "Glavbolgarstroy", Günter Verheugen, the treaties signed today are of key importance for the Community of member countries.

"This is an important day not only for Bulgaria, but also for the entire European Union, because this project will increase the security of our energy supplies," said the chairman of the International Advisory Board of Glavbolgarstroy, Gunter Verheugen, BTV reported.

The assigned activities must be completed in less than two years.
