A total of 136 irregular migrants were returned to Cuba by the United States Coast Guard Service (SGC) on January 18 and 20, through the port of Orozco, in Bahía Honda, Artemisa, as part of the bilateral migration agreements.

Most of these people (121 men, 14 women and one minor) were from Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey who had participated in nine illegal exits from the country and were intercepted by the SGC at sea.

Four of the returnees were transferred to the investigative bodies for being allegedly guilty of serious criminal acts and for this reason they are being investigated.

With these operations, there are nine operations carried out by this route from the US with 1,188 returned, while added to those who have been returned to Cuba from the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands, there would be a total of 12 return actions with 1,333 irregular migrants in what it goes from 2023.

The Cuban authorities have reiterated their commitment to regular, safe and orderly migration and insist on the danger and life-threatening conditions that illegal departures from the country by sea represent.
