The German operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has gone into liquidation on January 1, 2023, German news portal T-Online reported on Friday, Reuters reported.

Nord Stream 2 is the natural gas pipeline connecting Russia and Germany across the Baltic Sea, financed by Russian energy giant Gazprom and several European energy companies since 2011, when the project began.

In September last year, both the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were sabotaged through a suspected series of explosions that triggered underwater gas leaks in the Baltic States.

Plans to put Nord Stream 2 into operation were halted after Russia's invasion of Ukraine last February, although the project was completed in the fall of 2021, BNR noted.
