The Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Milkov

Nikolay Milkov was born on December 10, 1957 in Sofia.

He graduated from the French High School in Sofia, presented today during an open meeting of the Council of Ministers the achievements in the field of the established priorities of the Bulgarian foreign policy within the framework of the report on the work of the caretaker government, the institution announced.

Minister Milkov singled out the active work of the Ministry to uphold the peace and security of our country, to protect the interests of Bulgaria and Bulgarian citizens internationally and to build good neighborly relations and regional connectivity.

Nikolay Milkov was born on December 10, 1957 in Sofia.

He graduated from the French High School in Sofia, determined the successful organization and holding of the early parliamentary elections abroad on October 2, 2022. 755 polling stations were opened in 62 countries, in which more than 178 thousand of our compatriots voted.

For its implementation, all structures of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Central Administration and abroad were engaged.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs placed a special emphasis on the work of the caretaker government for the accession of Bulgaria to the Schengen area and the continuation of the active dialogue with the European Commission, the Czech Presidency and the other EU member states.

He noted the large number of meetings and consultations held at all levels with the EU member states and especially with the reserved countries - the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, as well as with key partners such as Germany and France.

As a result, the hesitant position of Sweden was overcome and the support of Germany and France was confirmed.

The excellent interaction between the Bulgarian institutions on this important priority for the state was also emphasized.

"Diplomatic efforts were undertaken and the decision for Bulgaria and Romania was not allowed to be split.

We worked in close coordination with the Bulgarian MEPs, who took a number of initiatives to support our Schengen membership," said Nikolay Milkov

Dealing with the foreign policy challenges caused by the raging war in Ukraine, as well as Bulgaria's ongoing efforts to implement the agreements reached with the Republic of North Macedonia and the European Union, were also highlighted among the main priorities for the MFA.
