On January 19, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov had a telephone conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vopke Hoekstra.
APA reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released information about this.
During the telephone conversation, the parties discussed regional issues, including the negotiation process on the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the current situation around the Lachin road.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told the other side that the reasons for the legitimate protest of the citizens of Azerbaijan are the looting of Azerbaijan's natural resources, the misuse of the Lachin road, which was intended only for humanitarian purposes, for illegal economic and military activities, and the resulting mine threats that resulted in 282 Azerbaijanis becoming victims of landmines. .
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also stated that since the beginning of the protests, the convoys of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as well as about 800 vehicles, including Armenian emergency medical vehicles, have passed through the road without any obstacles. He stressed that the claims about "closure" are completely unfounded.
As the first party to present the text of the peace agreement, the Azerbaijani side is ready to continue negotiations with Armenia in this direction for a short period of time.
During the telephone conversation, opinions were also exchanged on other regional issues.
