Light rain and drizzle may occur on Thursday in Punjab and Haryana including Delhi-NCR.

There is a possibility of snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.

Under the influence of Western Disturbance, there is a forecast of light to moderate rain and hailstorm with winds blowing at a speed of 50 km per hour in North-West India including Delhi on January 23-24.

It has not yet rained in the winter season in Delhi.

According to the Meteorological Department, this happened due to the lack of strong western disturbances in November and December.

In January last year, the city recorded 82.2 mm of rainfall, the highest for the month since 1901.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had told on Monday that due to the effect of two western disturbances, the outbreak of cold wave will stop from January 19.

A weather system with warm moist winds from West Asia is called a Western Disturbance.

When a Western Disturbance arrives in the region, the direction of the wind changes.

The cold north-west winds coming from the mountains stop blowing, due to which the temperature rises.

Rajasthan can get relief from winter

In Rajasthan, the night temperature in Fatehpur, Sikar, Churu and Karauli went below the freezing point and the harsh winter continues in the entire state.

According to the report of the Meteorological Department, on Tuesday night, the minimum temperature was minus 2.2 degree Celsius in Sikar's Fatehpur, minus 1.5 degree Celsius in Sikar, minus 1.2 degree Celsius in Churu and minus 0.8 degree Celsius in Karauli.

Similarly, Sangaria (Hanumangarh), Chittorgarh, Alwar, Anta (Baran) recorded minimum temperatures of 0.3, 0.1, 0.5 and 2 °C respectively, while the night temperature at other places was 3.1 °C (Sriganganagar) and 8.4 °C. Stayed between (Dungarpur).

The department has forecast rise in temperature from Thursday and relief from the bitter cold. 

Light rain and snow forecast in Kashmir 

The minimum temperature in Kashmir fell further below the freezing point, while the Met department predicted rain and snow from Thursday.

The Meteorological Office said that some western disturbances are likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir from January 19 to 25.

It will be cloudy till January 19-21 and there is a possibility of light rain or snowfall at a few places mainly in the higher reaches.

He told that from the night of January 22 to the morning of January 24, there will be very heavy rain and there is a possibility of light to moderate snowfall in the plains of Kashmir (with rain in Jammu) and moderate snowfall in the middle and higher altitude areas.
