Kazakh lawmaker Azamat Abildayev was expelled from his Ak Zhol party after expressing support for Russia, Reuters reported.

Abildayev told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty this month that he supports Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine and called Ukrainian leaders "Nazis".

The Kazakh government, which has traditionally had close relations with Moscow, does not support the invasion of Russian forces into Ukraine and does not recognize Russia's annexation of Ukrainian territories.

Today, the Ak Zhol party stated that it had made an internal assessment of Abildayev's statements and that a decision had been made to exclude him.

In addition, the party has asked the election commission of Kazakhstan to terminate his parliamentary mandate, writes BTA.

In its statement, "Ak Zhol" emphasized that it "supports the independence and territorial integrity of our republic and our friendly countries".
