US Congressman Richie Torres has called on all countries to recognize Kosovo's independence, saying the West has gone too far in "indulging" Serbia, Albanian Radio and Television reports.

Torres accused Serbia of being the "outstretched hand of Russia" and said of Pristina that it was an ally of the US and deserved support "in the fight with Serbia".

Kosovo deserves recognition, it deserves support in the fight against Serbia, which is Russia's proxy, and we must support Kosovo's democracy.

I am worried about the fact that the West has gone too far in appeasing Serbia, Torres said, quoted by BTA.

Vucic warned: The situation in the Balkans is getting complicated

On January 10, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that currently 106 out of 193 countries in the world do not recognize Kosovo's independence.

In early January, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that nine countries had withdrawn recognition of Kosovo and that a tenth was expected to do so, without specifying which country.

According to Vucic, the nine countries are Somalia, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Eswatini (Swaziland), Libya, Guinea, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia and the Maldives.

Tensions between Belgrade and Pristina have been constant since Kosovo declared independence in 2008, which Serbia refuses to recognize.

The European Union and the United States are trying to help both countries normalize their relations, but so far without success.
