[Compile Lu Yongshan/Comprehensive Report] Bloomberg reported that according to the latest forecast report released by the British health data analysis company Airfinity, during the Lunar New Year holiday, 36,000 people may die from Wuhan pneumonia (new coronavirus disease, COVID-19) every day in China. ), becoming one of the deadliest periods of the pandemic.

Airfinity’s upward revision to China’s daily death toll of 11,000 was based on a Dec. 29 estimate, a sign of the alarming speed of the outbreak and the lack of clear information about how the outbreak is spreading in China.

Airfinity said the update is based on data from provinces in China and mortality data from other zero-era countries after the first lifting of epidemic prevention measures.

Airfinity pointed out that China may experience a longer and more severe wave of the Wuhan pneumonia epidemic, because millions of people return to their hometowns to reunite with their families during the traditional festivals of the Lunar New Year, which has contributed to the spread of the virus.

Airfinity director of analysis Matt Linley (Matt Linley) said that it is estimated that China's healthcare system will bear a significant burden in the next 2 weeks, and many treatable patients are likely to die due to hospital overcrowding and lack of care.

Airfinity estimates that since December last year, the cumulative death toll from Wuhan pneumonia in China is 608,000, but according to Chinese official data, in the first 5 weeks of the outbreak, only nearly 60,000 hospitalized patients died in China.
