Turkey declares itself in favor of the normalization of relations with Syria and has asked Russia for assistance in this matter.

A tripartite meeting of foreign ministers is also being prepared.

This was announced today by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference on the results of Russian diplomacy in 2022, TASS reported.

Turkey, as you know, has declared for the normalization of relations with Damascus.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he is ready to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

We were asked to cooperate, a meeting of foreign ministers also took place, Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister pointed out that the US also understood the need to cooperate with the legitimate authority in Syria in the person of President Bashar al-Assad.

Lavrov also said that Moscow understands Turkey's concerns regarding Kurdish fighters in Syria, Reuters reported.

The Kurdish People's Protection Forces (PDF), which Ankara says are linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), are active in Syria.

Lavrov also stated today that the West does not want the return of refugees to Syria, and the indicators related to the humanitarian aid provided to the country are among the worst.
