Israel Defense Forces officer, military analyst Yigal Levin explained why the West delayed for so long the provision of tanks and other weapons to Ukraine.

He said this in the joint project "Breakfast with "1+1" and TSN.ua "Conversations about what is important".

First of all, the expert explained that weapons are not divided into offensive and defensive, the military does not divide them.

This is such a diplomatic and journalistic strain.

"Why it took so long is a complex topic. There are many reasons why the West delayed or waited. The implementation of the transfer of weapons is taking place in stages. Also, Ukraine cannot master all Western weapons at once. It is necessary to understand that the Western tank is radically different from the Soviet one. And there is there is also a rembaza, mechanics, technical service personnel. In general, we are talking about hundreds or thousands of people who need to be trained," says Yihal Levin.

In addition, there is another logistical issue - transportation, refueling.

According to the expert, if suddenly 300 Western tanks are given to Ukraine tomorrow, it is not a fact that the Armed Forces will find who will drive them.

"There will be hundreds of tanks, but the handover will take place in stages. This applies not only to tanks, but to any other weapon - air defense systems, air defense systems, BMPs, etc. This is a process that includes mastering, training and building logistical capabilities," - an Israeli officer noted.

Yigal Levin suggested that the supply of such weapons could theoretically be before the start of a full-scale invasion, but unfortunately this did not happen.

"According to the media, in 2018-2019, the USA or Canada wanted to sell armored combat vehicles to Ukraine at a very good discount. But some forces in Ukraine blocked this issue and they were never purchased. And this applies not only to tanks, but also to the missile program: why Ukraine did not have its own long-range missiles," he concluded.

We will remind that France is handing over Bastion armored personnel carriers and AMX-10RC wheeled tanks to Ukraine.

Polish President Andrzej Duda promised that Warsaw would supply Ukraine with a company of Leopard tanks.

Ukraine will receive Challenger 2 tanks from Britain.

At the same time, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that his country is not yet ready to transfer tanks to Ukraine.

However, according to Sky News, the head of the Foreign Ministry of Great Britain, James Cleverley, during his trip to the American continent, will convince the USA and Canada to provide tanks to Ukraine.
