The number of victims of heavy rains and the floods caused by them in the US state of California has reached 20 people, Reuters reported, citing the authorities.

State Gov. Gavin Newsom said at least 20 people have died as a result of the rainstorms in California since Dec. 26, and tens of thousands remain under evacuation orders.

The National Meteorological Service announced that the torrential rains have already subsided, which makes it possible to start recovery activities in the state, writes BTA.
