[Reporter Lu Yixuan/Taipei Report] The 4-day second round of negotiations on the "Taiwan-US 21st Century Trade Initiative" ended today.

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) issued a statement stating that during the Taipei negotiation round, the two sides exchanged views on the content of proposed texts on trade facilitation, anti-corruption, small and medium-sized enterprises, good regulations, and domestic regulations for the service industry.

Officials also agreed on a number of items and aimed to maintain an "ambitious" negotiating schedule in the coming months to sustain momentum.

The statement reiterated that both sides look forward to achieving ambitious trade initiatives to strengthen and deepen economic and trade relations.

The United States and Taiwan will hold a physical round of negotiations on the 21st Century Trade Initiative in Taipei from January 14 to 17.

The negotiation was conducted under the auspices of AIT and TECRO.

The negotiations were led by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and U.S. Assistant Trade Representative Terry McCartin (Terry McCartin) to participate in the negotiations. and USAID officials.

AIT explained that this meeting in Taipei is a continuation of the two-day productive conceptual discussion between the United States and Taiwan in New York on November 8-9, 2022.

During the four-day round in Taipei, the two sides exchanged views on proposed texts for trade facilitation, anti-corruption, small and medium-sized enterprises, good regulation, and domestic regulations for services.

Officials also agreed on a number of items and are aiming to maintain an ambitious negotiating schedule in the coming months to sustain momentum.

AIT reaffirms that, as stated in its August 2022 negotiating mandate, the relevant text follows the mutual commitment of both parties to achieve ambitious trade initiatives to strengthen and deepen economic and trade relations.

Details about the next round of negotiations will be announced in the coming days.

AIT also added that U.S. congressional staff visited Taipei during the negotiation round and were briefed by USTR officials.

USTR also hosted a stakeholder consultation meeting, consistent with the U.S. commitment to transparency and active external engagement.

AIT emphasized that the US-Taiwan trade negotiations are in line with the US one-China policy.

The United States' one-China policy is guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the Three U.S.-China Communiqués, and the Six Guarantees.
