The Ministry of the Interior proposes more serious penalties for drivers.

What will be the sanctions and will it be easier to confiscate offenders' licenses?

The topic was commented on by the former head of the "Road Police" Tencho Tenev, Diana Rusinova from the European Center for Transport Policies and Krasimir Georgiev from the Association for the Qualification of Cars on Nova TV.

"The first thing that is aimed at is the introduction of systematicity - i.e. when a systematic violation is committed, the fines become more.

The second thing is to introduce a clear threshold of the fine for a given violation, and if it is systematic - to raise it", Rusinova explained.

In the new draft law, the concept of "average speed" and higher penalties for the purpose of prevention are also laid down, Rusinova also pointed out.

According to Tencho Tenev, removing more checkpoints and stiffer fines will have an effect.

He gave the example that if a driver drives in the emergency lane, 10 points will be deducted from him.

In case of 4 such violations, his license will be revoked.

Traffic police takes 8 points for one beer

"Taking away the points is a very good proposal," Krasimir Georgiev thinks.

"So, in fact, the law allows you to undergo an additional theoretical training once in a calendar year, after which you get 13 points back," he added.

The draft law is about to undergo public discussion.
