The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) confirms its categorical position that politicians and public figures from Bulgaria and North Macedonia have a responsible role in building trust and developing good neighborly relations between the two countries, as well as in reducing tension in the public space.

This was stated in a statement published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The agency emphasizes that public statements that insult or provoke the other party are absolutely unacceptable and counterproductive.

They do not represent the official position of the Bulgarian state and cannot be interpreted as such.

Considering the common history that connects the two countries, the celebrations of common historical events and personalities, such as the anniversary of Mara Buneva's death, should lead to strengthening of trust and good neighborliness, the MFA statement said.

At the same time, no less dangerous for bilateral relations are the appeals of marginal parties in North Macedonia against Bulgarian politicians and public figures who are committed to protecting the rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia and projects for the rapprochement of people between the two countries.

Such an approach has the obvious purpose of creating additional tension in bilateral relations in the interest of circles that are not interested in the European integration of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Good-neighborly relations with our friends in Skopje will be built through dialogue, not through prohibitions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out.
