An increase in the price of bread is not expected, mainly because of the stable prices of wheat on world markets.

"The most social measure that was introduced by the former government and which was confirmed by the official is 0% VAT for the price of bread and flour. 20% VAT is actually a consumer tax. The zero rate has given results - we have a 17% reduction in the price of different types of bread , "Dobrudzha" type is even 26% cheaper in retail chains," announced the Chairman of the Board of the National Branch Union of Bakers and Confectioners Mariana Kukusheva in the "Bulgaria morning" studio.

She specified that there

is an increase in prices for boutique bakeries that do not produce bread for the mass consumer.

Expectations are that the price of bread will remain stable for at least the next 2 months

.

"Global analysts predict that the price of the main raw material - grain, will not rise in the next 2 months. Last year, March and April saw unprecedentedly high prices on the Balkan Peninsula. But the 2022 grain harvest was good, farmers harvested and expected such prices for their production. In view of the accumulating costs of storage, some producers have taken the liberty of claiming that bread is produced from Ukrainian wheat in our country. It is a limited quantity and is used for compound feed. When you lose in business, they have panic thoughts. Our wheat is affordable. and high-quality, and the bread is capricious," said Kukusheva.

She explained to Bulgaria ON AIR that

inflation affects the bakery industry the least

.

The reason - our country is secured in terms of raw materials.

"Bulgaria exports two products - wheat and electricity, so we have both food and energy security. The price of gas is reflected in the price of fertilizers on the fields, but very few colleagues still work entirely with gas, no more than 2%. And they re-equip its factories, because the forecast is that the price of gas will continue to rise," explained Kukusheva.

However, the price of snacks is increasing, unlike that of bread.

The reason is that they do not fall within the scope of 0% VAT.

The price of the bun is now BGN 2.

"The forecasts are there that prices will continue to rise due to the increase in the price of eggs and dairy products. But consumption is not falling, which means that a good product has its permanent clientele. For us, the challenge is how to ensure better wages for labor, it is 30-35% of the value of each product", specified Kukusheva.

And he added that

there are no people willing to work as pastry chefs, since it is hard manual labor, more nighttime work is done, and the wages are not high
