Lahore:

Pakistan's Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Monday indicated for the first time that he would return to the National Assembly to be part of the consultation process for a caretaker government for general elections later this year.

In April last year, 131 PTI members of the National Assembly resigned after Imran was removed from the post of prime minister through a no-confidence motion.

However, the Speaker of the National Assembly is yet to accept his resignation and has called all PTI MPs to verify whether his resignation is "genuine and voluntary".

Speaking to reporters at his residence in Lahore on Monday, Imran said, "If we do not return to the National Assembly, the PML-N-led coalition government will form a caretaker government in consultation with opposition leader Raja Riaz, chosen by it." after completion of his term in August this year).

We will not let this happen.

This is the first time Imran has expressed his stand on returning to the National Assembly after stepping down from the post of Prime Minister.

Imran has also said that President Arif Alvi will soon ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to seek a vote of confidence in the National Assembly.
