One of the most sought-after professions in Romania is that of a priest, according to a study cited by Antena Observer.

According to the data, a cleric with a secondary education earns about 4,000 lei (1,594 BGN), and one with a university degree - about 5,000 lei (1,992 BGN).

The amount can increase depending on the accumulated seniority and reach tens of thousands of lei per month for those who hold leadership positions in the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Patriarch Daniel, who heads the church hierarchy, has a salary similar to that of the president of the Senate or the president of the Chamber of Deputies.

From January 1, 2023, he receives a monthly remuneration of about 25,000 lei (BGN 9,960).

The money for priests' salaries in Romania comes from the state budget, Antena Observer also notes.

In 2023, 817.3 million lei (325.617 million BGN) have been earmarked for the representatives of religious institutions.

This is 5% more than last year.

In addition, religious temples in Romania will receive from the state 370.2 million lei (147.490 million BGN) for the maintenance and restoration of places of worship and 9.18 million lei (3.657 million) for salaries of non-priestly staff engaged in theological educational units and institutions.

Currently, there are over 20,000 priests in Romania who receive a salary from the state, Antena Observer informs.
