In 2022, the average driver in London lost 156 hours of their life in traffic, while if they drove in Chicago, an hour less - 155 hours.

These are the results of the 2022 Global Traffic Scorecard survey, which ranks the most congested cities on earth.

Unfortunately, Bulgarian cities are not included in the ranking.

Paris is the third busiest city in the world, where motorists spend an average of 138 hours a year behind the wheel.

Boston is fourth with 134 hours, and Bogotá, Colombia is fifth, with traffic consuming an average of 122 hours of its residents' time.

Among European cities, immediately after the capital of France, Palermo ranks 121 hours and 10th in the world in terms of traffic jams.

Bulgaria's neighboring metropolis Istanbul is in 16th place in the world with 89 hours stuck in traffic.

Brussels, Budapest, Athens, Turin, Berlin, Munich are also at the forefront.

London is the best city for tourism in 2023

Among the least congested larger cities in Europe are San Sebastian, where drivers spend an average of just 6 hours in traffic a year, Santander (8 hours) and Sweden's Malmö (16 hours).

Compared to 2021, the study found that hours lost to traffic increased in nine of the 10 most congested cities on earth.

In Paris alone, residents lost 1 percent more time on the road in 2021 than in 2022.
