NATO member states remain committed to the 2008

NATO

Bucharest Summit .

US Ambassador to NATO Julian Smith told

about this in an interview with

TSN.ua.

She explained what chances Ukraine has for receiving an action plan for NATO membership

"We remain committed to Bucharest (the NATO Bucharest Summit - ed.), where the decision was made in 2008, when the Alliance said not "if" Ukraine and Georgia will join NATO, but "when". NATO's door remains open. President Biden was clear about this . We've also made it clear, and this applies directly to the Russians, that Russia has no voice and no veto in this process. NATO enlargement is always a matter between the NATO Allies themselves and the aspirant countries. So we will continue to push that message. But I think you've also heard my president and secretary general say that we want to make sure right now that Ukraine gets all the practical support it needs now to win on the battlefield. And that's our number one priority," she said.

Julian Smith also emphasized that the Allies will continue to discuss Ukraine's accession to the Alliance after its victory in the fight against Russian aggression.

"Yes, I don't see the debate about Ukraine and NATO really moving in any direction. But in the end, it's the same direction, which is that allies support Ukraine joining the Alliance. And we will, without a doubt, continue to look for ways to strengthen already of Ukraine's strong partnership with NATO, moving forward," summed up the US ambassador to NATO.

Membership of Ukraine in NATO

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksiy Reznikov, stated in a recent interview that

Ukraine has actually already joined NATO,

although it has not formally become a member of the Alliance.

In December 2022, the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna reported that

all 30 NATO member countries agree with the need for the country to join the Alliance.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi emphasized that

rhetoric about NATO's "open door" for Ukraine is not enough today

.

Our country expects real steps from the Alliance.
