Several US soldiers attacked German police officers at the main train station in the southern German city of Nuremberg.

A police officer was injured in the incident, reports BTA, referring to the German police.

The incident occurred after the soldiers got into an argument with each other on Saturday night as they prepared to leave a local nightclub.

Federal police intervened and expelled those involved in the dispute from the club, and had to forcibly remove a 21-year-old soldier from the stage.

However, several soldiers from the group then began to defend their colleague and eventually attacked the police officers.

The officer injured in the incident was taken to hospital, and German police have opened an investigation against three of the soldiers for assault causing bodily harm and resisting officers.

The US soldiers involved in the incident were handed over to the US military police in the German city of Vilseck, which is located about 80 km east of Nuremberg, where one of the five US Army garrisons in the region is located.
