In Italy, law enforcement officers arrested the leader of the Sicilian mafia "Cosa Nostra" Matteo Messina Denaro.

This is reported by DW.

Denaro was arrested in Sicily at a private clinic where he had come for treatment, Italian state television said.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called Matteo Denaro the "most significant" mafia boss and hailed his arrest as "a great victory for the state, which shows that it never gives up in the face of the mafia".

"Matteo Messina Denaro has been arrested! I salute the police, the judicial system, the thousands of people who work silently every day to defend justice," Italian Defense Minister Guido Crocetto wrote on Twitter.

Matteo Messina Denaro has been hiding from the police since 1993.

He is suspected of murdering at least 50 people.

We will remind, in Mexico, after the arrest of the

drug lord

Ovidio Guzman Lopez, large-scale riots began.

The drug lord's fighters fired at two planes and killed three security forces.

The shootout between the gang and law enforcement officers lasted all day on January 5.

And in Spain, an Italian

mafia boss

was arrested after being spotted on Google Maps photos.
