A fisherman from the Velingrad village of Draginovo drowned in an accident in the "Malak Beglik" dam, Batak region, after the ice cracked and the 47-year-old man sank into the dam, announced the spokesman of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Pazardzhik, Miroslav Stoyanov.

The incident was reported yesterday afternoon.

According to initial data, a 47-year-old man from the village of Draginovo, together with his 23-year-old son and their 21-year-old friend from the same village, decided to go fishing in the reservoir.

Disregarding all safety measures, the father and son began fishing on the icy surface at one end of the pond.

The ice cracked under both of their feet and they found themselves in the icy waters.

Their fellow villager, who was on land, ran to look for help and stopped a minibus in which a father and son from Rakitovo were traveling.

With the help of a rope, they pulled the 23-year-old man out of the water, but unfortunately the father drowned.

Batak fire and police teams arrived at the scene, the perimeter of the scene was cordoned off.

Today, divers from the "Specialized operational activities" sector at RDPBZN-Plovdiv were also sent to the site.

With their help, the drowned man's body was discovered and taken ashore.

The corpse was transported for an autopsy to the Department of Forensic Medicine at the Medical Center-Pazardzhik.

An inspection was carried out, pre-trial proceedings were initiated in RU-Peshtera.
