[Central News Agency] Nobuo Kishi, the 63-year-old younger brother of the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, has decided to resign from the House of Representatives due to health reasons.

In addition, Abe was assassinated last year, and the constituency will hold a by-election in late April this year, which may be held at the same time as the by-election after Nobuo Kishi resigned from the House of Representatives.

The digital version of the Japanese media "China News" reported that several people familiar with the matter revealed that Nobuo Kishi has been in poor health since the end of last year, so he consulted with people around him whether to resign from the House of Representatives.

He will submit his resignation to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hiroyuki Hosoda, as soon as early February after consulting with the chairman of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s Yamaguchi Prefectural Company (local party headquarters) and other related parties.

Kishi Nobuo said in Iwakuni City on December 11 last year that he would not participate in the next House of Representatives election and retire, hoping to be succeeded by his secretary, 31-year-old eldest son Kishi Nobuo Chiyo.

Nobuo Kishi told the media that he will finish the rest of his term well.

When Abe was alive, the constituency was Yamaguchi 4, and a by-election will be held in late April this year at the earliest.

Nobuo Kishi's constituency is Yamaguchi 2, and it is likely that the by-elections for members of the House of Representatives in the two constituencies will be held at the same time.

Kishi Nobuo was born in Tokyo in 1959. He is the third son of Abe Shintaro and Yoko. The eldest brother is Abe Kannobu and the second brother is Abe Shinzo.

Shortly after his birth, he was sent to Yoko's brother Kishi Nobuo and his family as adopted sons. Nobuo Kishi didn't know his life experience until he was in college.

His grandfather was the late Prime Minister Nobusuke Kishi.

Nobuo Kishi graduated from Keio University in March 1981 and joined Sumitomo Corporation in April until 2002.

In July 2004, he participated in the election for the Yamaguchi constituency of the Senate and was elected for the first time. After being elected as a senator for two terms, in December 2012 he was elected to participate in the Yamaguchi 2 district election of the House of Representatives. He is currently serving his fourth term.

He once served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, served as the Minister of Defense from September 2020 to August 2022, and is currently an assistant to the Prime Minister (responsible for important policies on national security, etc.).
