On Saturday, January 14, when the Russian Federation carried out a massive terrorist missile attack on Ukrainian cities, an exchange of prisoners was supposed to take place.

According to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Russian side canceled this measure.

"Today, another exchange of prisoners with the Russian side was planned. However, it was canceled at the last moment on the initiative of the Russians. It is not difficult to guess the reasons for such a decision," the message reads.

The first exchange of prisoners this year took place on Sunday, January 8.

Then it was possible to bring home 50 Ukrainian defenders.

These are military personnel who were captured at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Mariupol and Donetsk region.

In total, since the beginning of the war, 1,646 people - military and civilian - have been freed

It will be recalled that on January 14, during a massive missile attack, the Russian aggressor used air and sea-based cruise missiles, as well as launched guided air missiles over the territory of Ukraine.

The weapon was aimed at critical infrastructure facilities.
