The US Coast Guard yesterday returned to their homeland another 177 Cuban migrants caught at sea, the Associated Press reported.

The migrants were picked up individually off the coast of Florida earlier this month, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

They were repatriated in two boats.

Since October 2022, the Coast Guard has prevented more than 4,900 migrants from crossing the risky Florida Straits in an attempt to reach the Florida Keys arc and other parts of the US state.

In 2022, 6,100 Cubans were caught at sea.

The Turkish Coast Guard rescued 59 illegal migrants

The latest repatriation of Cuban migrants comes as US President Joe Biden's administration begins a new policy of turning back Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans who have reached the Texas border, as well as Venezuelans who arrive illegally.

The US administration has also promised to offer humanitarian aid to up to 30,000 people a month from those four countries if they apply online, pay for their plane tickets and find a sponsor.

The US Embassy in Havana recently resumed processing migrant visas.
