The Russian defense complex probably resorts to using prisoner labor to meet wartime production needs.

There is an "ancient tradition of prison labor" in the Russian Federation.

However, since 2017, criminal liability for forced labor was re-introduced.

This is reported by the intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain.

"Prisoners are a unique human resource that Russian leaders can use to support the SVO, while there is still a shortage of willing volunteers," the message emphasizes.

Intelligence suggests that the labor of Russian prisoners, most likely, will be especially in demand by manufacturers of low-tech goods.

They are "almost certainly under strong pressure" from Moscow, which requires them to increase production.

It is noted that in November last year, the largest tank manufacturer in Russia, Uralvagonzavod, informed the local ZMP that it would employ 250 Russian prisoners.

By the way, Russia has one of the highest rates of prisoners in the world - more than 400,000. Meanwhile, the FSVP is often accused of cruelty and corruption.

We will remind you that Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Russian military group "Wagner's group",

travels around the colonies personally to recruit convicts

for the war against Ukraine.

He publicly announced the amnesty of Russian prisoners who spent half a year in Ukraine in the ranks of the "Wagner group".
