A possibility of separating Romania and Bulgaria for Schengen has not been discussed.

This was stated in an interview with TeVeRe Info by the foreign minister of our northern neighbor Bogdan Aurescu.

According to him, an option for temporary delay of Bulgaria was discussed, but not for secession.

"We didn't want to get rid of Bulgaria, to put it in jargon, we didn't want to be separated.

Bulgaria should be part of the Schengen area.

The two countries made extraordinary efforts to convince the European partners that they have carried out the necessary reforms and are ready for the zone without borders,'' commented Romania's number one diplomat.

The Romanian Foreign Minister spoke with his Austrian counterpart about Schengen

According to him, the problem is that, unlike Romania, Bulgaria has to convince not one, but two countries - Austria and the Netherlands.

The Netherlands has a series of demands on Bulgaria, which relate to a new report on corruption and human rights or a new evaluation regarding the cooperation and verification mechanism.

Bulgaria must make a series of efforts in this direction.

And there are ways to do it, despite the political crisis and the difficulties in forming a cabinet, emphasized Bogdan Aurescu, quoted by BTA.
